Safety Lighting Installation Completed
Following several monthes of work by Swift Current Light and Power crews, the installation of safety lighting along the Trans Canada Highway through Swift Current is now complete. The project came together through a collaboration with the province of Saskatchewan which contributed over $600,000 with the City's Light and Power Department looking after the actual installation and continued maintenance of the lights. The new system includes 172 lights between Highway 4 (Memorial Drive) and 17th Avenue West with an additional 16 lights installed at the Transport City intersection. City officials indicate the LED streetlights now installed produce 16,000 lumens each for improved illumination and are dark sky friendly. Therefore, these lights do not cast upwards to create light pollution.
