Burstall and Leader Residents Return Home Following Evacuation
Strong gusty winds on Tuesday wreaked havoc with a wildfire near Burstall. An evacuation order was in place for residents of Burstall, the R.M. of Deerforks and the Town of Leader. The wildfire was initially concentrated to an area South of the Town with evacuees urged to travel to Leader then onto Kindserley. The province's emergency response team was assisting with the evacuation of local residents. Environment Canada had issued wind warnings for the region of 90-110km/hr through the day.
The fires have since been extinguished thanks to the efforts of numerous fire departments from across the Southwest with the evacuation orders now lifted for Burstall and Leader. Power service has yet to be restored to many areas of the the Southwest.
Burning embers of homes are a common scene today following wild fires on Tuesday through the area.
